Thirteen foggy years ago, Mark Hiscock and Chris Andrews were double booked at a small pub in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Rather than cancel one performer, the charismatic owner suggested they play together and so was born Shanneyganock. Joined by longtime bassist Bob Pike and Mike Clarke on percussion, the group has since charmed many through their stirring ballads, powerful shanties, and rib-rattling jigs and reels. With a new release just out , their six previous studio projects have been featured on Home Brew compilations, Warner Record’s Atlantic Standard’s compilation and “Ed’s Up” on OLN Network with The Barenaked Ladies. 2007 also marked 4 Music Newfoundland and Labrador award wins including Entertainers of the Year, as well as a 2008 East Coast Music Award nomination for Roots Group. 2011 Winners of two Music NL awards; Celtic / Traditional Group & Entertainers of the Year! Performing in Doha, Qatar; Memphis (Folk Alliance) they’ve also completed several Cross Canada Tours.

Great Big Sea is a bastard. Forged from the loins of Figgy Duff and Ryan’s Fancy, GBS found its feet on the unforgiving streets of St. John’s, and stood their ground when others faltered. When asked about their unlikely success, founding member Bob Hallett is typically candid: “We weren’t the best musicians in town,” he says, “we just wanted it more. We were driven by a bloody-minded need to succeed and we were rewarded for our bleeding.”

Born and raised in the South of Ireland, Chris Hennessy worked for several years as an electrician to fund his musical ambitions. Eventually his talents were recognized and he became a member of the Sons Of Erin whose album of folk songs made them popular in both Ireland and Newfoundland. This gave Chris an opportunity to tour his native country as well as Canada which led him to produce his own album, Ballad Of A Sad Café. Later moving to Newfoundland, he settled into his career of playing, singing, song writing and producing music. Chris plays every Wednesday 7 – 10pm & Friday’s 5 – 8pm, Join us!
